PETIKAN DARI AKHBAR

Pradas responds

In response to the above, let me clarify the matter as simply as possible:

l The frequency allocated to Pradas by MCMC as mentioned in the article clearly says that it is a commercial frequency and not amateur band.

l Pradas does not undertake the role of the amateur, but Pradas does train newcomers who are keen on becoming amateur radio operators by providing a platform whereby they can learn about and operate a radio unit legally according to procedur es. We use amateur radio guidelines issued by MCMC to train our members, a nd our objective is to have more ham radio operators in Malaysia, even though Pradas is on a commercial band.
l Training and guidelines regarding ham radio procedures for Pradas members is conducted by licenced radio operators. Most Pradas members have Apparatus Assignment (AA) issued by MCMC.

l True, the Pradas callsign is issued by us. This callsign is to provide self-discipline and to train newcomers on how to use proper procedures when they become licensed radio operators in the future, as stated as prefix and suffix.

l Pradas is the only society registered in Malaysia where the committee is elected by members, and there is no third party interest involved. Although there are fees, this is for administration costs and to comply with ROC procedures. All amateur traffic is transmitted by legally licensed amateur radio operators in amateur band.

Pradas does not transmit out of the 142.800mhz frequency. This has been made known to all Pradas members who are not licensed amateur radio operators in the society.

l Pradas provides the first step towards becoming ham radio operators by giving first-hand training and knowledge to its member through proper handling of equipment, procedures and the do’s and don’ts as stated in amateur guidelin es.

l As to the AA issued to Pradas, all members are issued with a legal AA with individual serial numbers.
Note that all Pradas committee members are licensed amateur radio operators.

We educate and monitor our members all the time. We in Pradas would like to thank one of our mentors, Sangat Singh (9M2SS), for his views. We look to him to guide us further in making ham operators in Malaysia popular and successful.

Ismail Yusof Pradas vice president (Pradas callsign: PR-IY/ amateur callsign 9W2IYZ)
